Al-Khair Young Muslims (AKYM)

(^_^) YEA! PROJECT

Executive Summary

“YEA!” Youth Exchange Alley to Youth Entertainment Avenue. Organized by Al-Khair Young Muslims (AKYM), “YEA!” aims to introduce fun and interactive entertainment in exchange for activities participated namely CIP, motivational talks, self-studies, camps, sports etc, as a leisure gateway. There will be no restricted number of hours to have fun in “YEA!”, but participants are required to clock time usage if they want to use the facilities.

“YEA!” is a platform for youth to hangout after school hours. It is also an avenue to encourage community involvement; volunteerism etc. “YEA!” will have mentors to guide the participants during their stay there, conducting ‘mini tuitions’ and taking care of their welfares. In other words, “YEA!” is a safe place to be at. Not only stopping at the facilities that can be used, AKYM will have the follow-ups for the participants, such as camps, talks, outdoor activities and sport events. Eventually, we hope the participants could be part of us planning these activities together with us.

Youths in Choa Chu Kang vicinities, aged thirteen to eighteen years old, regardless of race or religion, are welcome to use the facilities in “YEA!”. Participants who complete at least one hour of the above mentioned activities will be entitled to use the facilities available; PlayStation, X-box, Air Hockey, Table Soccer, Pool, Movie Screenings and many other stimulating computer/LAN games. Those who are interested to use these facilities will be granted free membership. “YEA!” (Youth Exchange Alley) redemption centre for participants to redeem the number of hours of activities participated for equal number of hours of facilities at “YEA!” (Youth Entertainment Avenue). Evaluation will be done to find out what are the things that still can be improved.

Not only a place for fun and entertainment, “YEA!” is also an alley of social, physical, emotional and intellectual developments, where participants will have better opportunities to widen their circle of friends in the community. We will have them to be the leaders of our clubs, of their choice, like Badminton, Soccer, Netball, Cycling and Kompang. Having these roles, the youths will have the opportunities to build leadership and communication skills.

“YEA!” will be situated under the void deck within the short vicinities of the neighbouring schools in Choa Chu Kang area. In the first phase, we aim for the students and teachers of at least Choa Chu Kang Secondary School, Teck Whye
Secondary School and Regent Secondary School should know the existence of “YEA!”. Following this, “YEA!” monthly activities such as monthly sports activities, competitions and friendly matches will aim to maintain 100 participants in every three months. Going to the above-mentioned schools during assembly is one of the ways on how AKYM can attract participants to “YEA!”. Apart from the assembly, booth will be set up at these schools so students will have a better understanding of “YEA!”.

Informing Youth Executive Committee (YEC) at Choa Chu Kang, Yew Tee and Lam Soon Community Centers is another way to get participants. Words of mouth from the existing participants, especially, will attract more youths. The facilities in “YEA!” are maintained. Not only that, the ambience will be changed every three months so as to create changes to the atmosphere. Ideas from the youths will always be welcomed. In this manner, YEA will not be a bore to the participating youths. In order to strengthen the abilities of volunteers, parent-support group from the three schools can act as advisors so as to make “YEA!” a better platform for youths to be in.

We seek all your support and partnership, together with the participating schools. With “YEA!”, the networking of AKYM volunteers will definitely widen and strengthen. We will have the chance to learn how to handle situations, and thus gain experiences. This gives us the opportunities to become ambassadors for our possible partners.
